We cannot establish one way of classifying different types of wines in the world. Each language and culture states a particular way of relating to the beverage and, thus, it has different names.
We show you a list of the different ways of classifying wines in different Western countries. You will be able to know and compare names and features that, according to their origin, each area applies to its grape growing system. Besides, if you travel for business or pleasure, you will be able to distinguish all the possible variations that a wine menu shows in the country you go.
In Germany, wines are divided in three groups:
Red wines:
Ahr (comes from Pinot Noir grape, known as Spätburgunder)
White wines:
Mosela (comes from Riesling, Müller-Thurgau y Elbling grapes)

Pfalz (comes from Müller-Thurgau, Kerner, Silvaner, Morio-Muscat and Riesling grapes)
Rheinhessen (comes from Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner grapes)
Rheingau (comes from Riesling grapes)
Württemberg (Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Kerner grapes)
Claret wines:
Baden (Spätburgunder Weißherbst grapes)
